“23rd-April – 4th May will be Big Pedal fortnight! Charlotte Sharman will be competing with 2000 primary schools up and down the country in a battle over who can record the most journeys by bicycle and scooter. Parents, teachers and pupils can all take part. There will be daily prizes and activities over the fortnight to help you on your way:
Dr. Bike & Bike Breakfast
Cycle to school on Wednesday 25th April, and you (adults AND children) will be rewarded with a FREE breakfast and bicycle check over! The breakfast will take place before school starts - please arrive from 08.30 if you want to take part.
On this day we will carry out free bike checks and basic bike maintenance on children’s bikes. You can then collect your child’s bike by the end of the day.
To get your child’s bike checked over please….
· Label your bike with your child’s name
· Take the bike to the playground before school
· Leave the bike with the mechanic
· If you don’t think the bike is safe to ride, please wheel it to school if possible
Golden Lock
Every day during the Big Pedal, our Bike It Crew have a special mission.. they will place the Golden Lock on one bike or scooter. The owner of that scooter wins a prize! Ride and scoot to school for a chance to win every day.
Poster competition
Every child at Charlotte Sharman has the chance to win a brand new bike! Create a poster on the benefits of cycling to be in with a chance. Our Bike It officer Jo, and the school’s Bike It Crew, will decide on the winner and five runners up.
There’s loads of reasons to get pedalling after Easter! For questions, or if you have any ideas on how to get children cycling at your school, contact Jo –jo.chattoo@sustrans.org.uk / 07887633129
