Phonics Curriculum

Phonics at Charlotte Sharman is taught daily from Nursery to Year 2. We follow the Letters and Sounds scheme of work, alphablocks for reading the phonemes and rhymes and www.phonicsplay.co.uk for additional planning and interactive resources. Phonics is not just a discreet 20 minute lesson at Charlotte Sharman, you should see it being used in all lessons from english to maths to RE. Children are exposed to the same imagery for the phonemes from Early Years to Year 2 so the use of sound mats in independent work is consistent.

The phonics lead provides workshops for parents looking at how to help your child to read using a phonetic approach, and also a workshop in May introducing parents to the National Phonics Screen. 

We welcome you to come and join in our phonics lessons, just ask your class teacher but be prepared to join in!
